Our Practice
Embrace Architects is a Melbourne-based architecture and interior design practice founded by Nicholas Sun in 2015.
Working across Australia, our projects span a diverse range of scales and building types. We approach architecture and interiors as a connected design process, with our founder actively shaping the design direction of each project.
We work closely with clients, consultants and contractors throughout the design and construction process. Each project responds to its own brief and site, with careful consideration of how people will use and inhabit the spaces over time.

Disciplined Humanism
Between Design and Non-Design
Architecture extends beyond walls and roofs. It gives form to the fundamental relationships that shape our lives — between the individual and the collective, and with nature, time and emotion.
Architecture begins as an act of authorship, but its meaning is ultimately shaped by collective life over time.
Architecture should shape life without scripting it.
For us, design lies in deciding what must be held, and what must remain open for relationships to evolve. What is held gives coherence; what is open gives agency. Non-design is not the absence of intention, but the freedom deliberately left for life to unfold. We value expression with purpose and individuality within order. We resist form imposed for its own sake, and architecture that exhausts itself at the moment of completion.
Shapes of Belonging
Space as negotiation.
Architecture can bring people together without demanding togetherness. Belonging must negotiate difference, not only closeness; it cannot be designed into existence, but must be given time to grow.
Entwined with Nature
Space as reciprocity.
We are less interested in architecture that looks like nature than in architecture that can behave more like it. Landscape, climate and living systems belong to the spatial order of a project.
Layers of Time
Space as continuity.
We occupy architecture, and over time architecture occupies us — entering our habits and emotions. We prefer adaptation to erasure: durability is not permanence, but the capacity for repair, reuse and change.
Expressions of Joy
Space as celebration.
A space need not be neutral to endure, nor spectacular to bring joy. Joy may be found in an unexpected colour, the generosity of a room, or the quiet pleasure of light changing through the day. It can also be felt through sound, texture and warmth.
Thinking Through Making
These principles are tested through making. Structure, material and craft are part of how an idea is formed, not merely how it is resolved.
Architecture is not only what we make.
